An Analytical Study on Vocabulary Learning in Chinese Secondary Schools and the Impacts of CALL Programs or Smartphone APPs

Abstract Vocabulary is one of the key elements of language. The depth and width of vocabulary has an important effect on communicative ability of language learners. In China, vocabulary still puzzles a lot of secondary school students due to the current situation of English teaching in secondary schools and the poor learning methods students use. In recent years, with the development of computer and popularize of smart phones, the increasing number of students start to using CALL programs and smart phone APPs which enable them to do a better job in vocabulary learning and retention. This thesis tries to construct theoretical basis of CALL and vocabulary learning, analyses the result of vocabulary memorize experiment on the secondary school students, finally, concludes the impacts of CALL programs and smart phone applications. Furthermore, the thesis will provide some suggestions to vocabulary teaching and learning in secondary schools.46826

摘要词汇是语言的三大要素之一。词汇的掌握深度和广度对语言的听说读写和交际能力有着重要的影响。对于中国的初中学生而言,词汇习得仍然是困扰着他们的一个难题,这与初中英语教学的现状和学生使用的学习策略有很大的联系。近年来,由于计算机的发展以及智能手机的普及,越来越多的计算机辅助词汇学习程序或手机APP进入学生的生活,帮助他们更好地学习和记忆词汇。本文通过搜集和总结前人相关研究的成果,以及针对初中学生的词汇记忆实验,分析相关数据并得出结论,总结计算机辅助英语学习软件和只能手机程序对初中学生词汇学习的影响;期望能帮助初中学生获得有效的词汇学习方式,并对词汇教学提出一些建议。
