ABSTRACT “Looking for Mr. Green” is an excellent short story written by Saul Bellow, the famous Jewish-American writer and Nobel Literature Prize winner. George Grebe’s new job on the first day is to look for a man named Green in the Negro district after the Great Depression and to deliver the relief check to him. His works reflect the Jewish thoughts, for example, the Responsibility, the Holy Consciousness and the optimism of the Jewish people. From this short story, we can find that the Judaic complex deeply influences Saul Bellow’s works.
The paper analyzes the Judaic complex of Saul Bellow through the study of his short story “Looking for Mr. Green”.
