I.  Introduction

The 19th century was distinctively an age of poetry, one of poetic revival. The romantic poets all had a deep interest in nature. Many romantic poets—including Wordsworth and Shelley. Keats’ poetry is distinctive for its unusual physical concreteness and its lich with kinds of the sense. He was able to attach the reader’s sense as though the object were actually present. In short, he seeks to express the beauty in his poems, not only through the eyes and ears but through the sense of touch, taste, and smell. In a word, Keats believed that the poet should express his own feelings.
John Keats (1795-1821) was born in London, the son of a stable-keeper, lost both his parents by the age of fifteen. After that Keats was placed under the guardianship of a friend of a family. For two years more he was a surgeon’s help in a hospital in London, and he pass the examinations, he abandoned his profession in 1817,and gave up medicine to devoted himself entirely to poetry.
In 1817, with the help of Shelley, Keats published his first volume of pomes, which did not attract the critic’s attention. But after the publication the long of Endymion, he was brutally criticized in the Blackwood’s Magazine and the Quarterly Review. In 1820 came his third volume, including “Isabella”, “Lamia”, “The Eve of St. Agnes ” and other short pieces. The three title poems, dealing with mythical and legendary themes of ancient, medieval and Renaissance times, are rich in imagery and phrasing. These were both attracted by critics seriously. Keats suffered from poor health almost all his life and lived a great part of it under the shadow of death. These helped to from Keats’s special view of life as a mixture of happiness and sorrow, pleasure, and pain, love and disappointment. Keats’s poetry is richly adorned with sensuous details which delight senses. Keats seems to take delight in the concrete details which he records, and sometimes he seems to be identified with them as they from the slow-paced, gracious movement of his verse. The concreteness of his description and the felicity of his phrasing make Keats, like Shakespeare, a most rewarding poet for reader who appreciate the quality of language and who are ale to see, though imagination’s eyes, the variety of objects behind his words. On account of his poor health, Keats died in Rome of consumption in February, 1821. 论约翰•济慈作品中的“美”:http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_39135.html
