Abstract In my thesis, I will compare the differences of two versions on culture contents in order to let the readers understand that, whether foreignization or domestication, each one has something in which it excels and has its own weaknesses。 While translation keep to different principle due to different style of translation, different purpose of translation, different culture background of author and readers, translators act up to one certain principle or adopt one method。 Foreignization and domestication in translation do not contradict with each other, but complement with each other。 What is important is that the translator should try to bridge between different cultures。 Any excellent version can’t do without the translator’s flexible steering of the two translation methods。76312

摘要本文将通过对比两个译本对《红楼梦》中文化内容的不同处理，从而让读者了解到：无论是异化还是归化，各有其长亦各有其短，由于译者的翻译风格、翻译目的不同，译者以及目标读者的文化背景不同，不同译本有其侧重的翻译策略。异化和归化在翻译中并不矛盾，反而互为补充。重要的是译者在翻译的过程中要努力搭建不同文化的桥梁。任何出彩的译本都需要译者熟练地运用异化和归化两种方法。

1。 Introduction 

A Dream of Red Mansions plays an important role in Chinese literature。 Since the 19th century, many English versions have been appearing。 These versions have exerted a positive influence on culture export and cross-cultural communication, which added brilliant radiance to human civilization。 Two versions-----A Dream of Red Mansions by Yang Xianyi couple and The Story of the Stone by David Hawes are highly praised。 Yang Jiaqin once praised the version By Yang couple: A milestone in the history of cultural exchange between Chinese and western, the Chinese traditional cultures for thousands of years reflected in the original work of Cao Xueqin have been faithfully represented(杨家勤  105),however, the title The Story of the Stone by David Hawkes became a classic translation immediately(刘靖之 48)。John Minford, partner of David Hawkes ,thought that The story of the stone version reached the highest level-----the sublimation method used in this version connected with Cao Xueqin’s origin book on a soul level。 论文网 从《红楼梦》英译看归化异化策略对文化内容的处理:http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_87553.html
