Abstract To research the female images in different historical times, people can experience different personalities of female and care more about female in modern society. Geling Yan, as one of the world-renowned Chinese-America writers, has created many kinds of female characters with different personalities. As a female writer, she pays more attention to love, family and human relations around the women, which can help people to understand women better. Her novels cover a various types of women, from kind rural women to wise urban women, from traditional women to immigrant women. However, these women are always trapped in the fishing net, are forced to accept their tragic fates, or fight to survive temporarily.
In this novel, these women images will be combined to explain feminism and Yan’s perspectives about eastern and western culture, which also provides a chance for readers to research Yan’s novels. Siaoyu, Duo He and Wang Putao respectively represent three different women images. These different female characters interpret an idea that women deserve the equal status with men and can get rid of the marginalized social identity in their own way.

1. Introduction
1.1 Female images and Feminism
Female images focus on research on women’s fate, liberty and awakening. Chinese women went through primitive clan in a strong image of the indomitable spirit, and with the emergence of private ownership and hierarchy, women stood in the oppressed political status, and became the inferior, weak, and smooth image with attachment and humiliation. Looking back into the developing history of literature, people can easily find how women’s social position plays an important part in it. There are few female representatives of the beginning of literature while men occupy all the poems, essays, and novels where they create women images in terms of their social needs, value and standard. As a result, the traditional literature shows a picture of women as a filial, tender, industrious and tolerant image. In the process of the history, female experience the social transition for many times and step by step are changed toward to independent, free, and emancipated ones. The improving technology and ideological emancipation enable women free from the economic dependence to men and seeking for self-realization when female writers rise as an emerging force.
