摘要矛盾修辞法是一种特殊的语言现象，在英语中运用广泛，它与汉语的反衬辞格颇为相似，体现辩证统一的语义特征。它是由两个意思截然相反的词或词组结合在一起构成的。从语用功能来看，矛盾修辞法是通过同一事物中两个对立因素的相互映衬来表达新颖的涵义。本文通过语言实例对英语矛盾修辞法的基本构成、语用功能及其翻译方法作简要分析，从而揭示矛盾修辞法所表现的对立统一的辨证关系，有助于我们进一步理解这一特殊的语言现象。39734

Abstract  Oxymoron is a kind of special language phenomenon, widely used in English, which is quite similar to the contrast in Chinese and embodies the dialectical unity of semantic features. It consists of two words or phrases opposite in meanings. From the point of pragmatic functions, oxymoron expresses new meanings through the contrastive effect of the two rival words or phrases in the same thing. This paper intends to analyze the basic forms of English oxymoron, its pragmatic functions and its translation methods by using specific language instances so as to reveal its dialectical relationship of unity and opposites and help us to further understand this special language phenomenon.

I. Introduction
When we write an article, in order to make the article vivid and fascinating, we can take some special rhetorical devices, like a contradiction rhetoric method. This is not what the authors intentionally spelled, but a charming expression, which makes the article appear implicit and thought-provoking. And sometimes such usage seems a bit deregulation, but with careful scrutiny, they can grasp the profound meaning. This kind of gimmick mostly appears in literature, especially in novels, which can often attract more readers. Contradiction between the use of rhetoric method, had the effect that make the finishing point in the article, it is also the center of the article content, especially in the beginning and at the end, the role of a structure connecting ecosystem and inpiduals, and make the structure of the article clearer, to deepen the theme, rendering the atmosphere with local characteristics of the times, strengthen the role of language expression, mastering it can improve our ability to express ourselves in English and our literature appreciation ability.
The two words being semantically antagonistic to each other in an oxymoron represent the dialectical nature of a thing in the unity of opposites. When put together they have the obvious character of analyzability, commutability and compatibility. The observations reported in this paper are as follows: 1) The key to the interpretation of the meaning of an oxymoron lies in the successful dissolution of its tension which is the very charm that oxymoron has; 2) The formation of the tension in oxymoron comes from the tension existing in a thing being mixed with the onto logical unity of opposites and the cognitive one; 3) The cognitive echoism, involved in dissolving the tension of oxymoron should be different from those involved in other kinds of linguistic expressions; 4) The internal unity of opposites that a thing bears brings about the cohesive force of the two sides of die contradiction, which generates die coupling induction of the two confronting words showing up in an oxymoron. 英语矛盾修辞法探析:http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_40142.html
