Title  Contrastive Analysis of Little Women in the Context of Feminist Translation Theory
Abstract
Feminist translation theory advocates interventionist translation practice and emphasizes the way feminist translators use language as a manipulative tool to intervene the process of translating the origin text. The specific strategies employed by feminist translators in their translation are supplementing, prefacing and footnoting, and hijacking. This article attempts to analyze Little Women of different versions from the perspective of feminist translation theory. Based on feminist translation theory, the thesis discusses the translator’s subjectivity, and analyzes different characters in view of feminism to see whether there are the subjective complement, discrimination desalination and deleting to the character, and point out the strategies of feminist translation such as prefacing and footnoting, supplementing and hijacking in the translation. The study on feminist consciousness will enrich literature translation research, and make a new allocation about the image of traditional literature. As a result,it can broaden our horizon on the translation study.

1 Introduction
1.1 Little Women
Little women is a novel written by Louisa May Alcott(1832–1888), an American author. This novel tells us stories about four sisters in the March family. The oldest girl is Meg, growing to be a traditional little woman. She is just 16 years old when the story begins. To make money for her family, Meg becomes a private teacher in a nearby family. Usually, she takes care of her younger sisters when their mother is not at home. Meg is employed as a governess for the Kings, a wealthy local family. Finally, Meg marries the tutor of their neighbor-John Brooke. People evaluate her as lacking in independence, and reliant entirely on her husband. According to critic Sarah Elbert, “democratic domesticity requires maturity, strength, and above all a secure identity that Meg lacks” . Jo is the second girl in the March family. She is really a boyish girl who dreams to act and work like boys so that her best friend, her neighbor Laurence, sometimes calls her "my dear fellow". Different from Meg, Jo assists her rich and lonely grand-aunt March to support their family. In fact, Jo loves literature, both reading and writing and she has a dream of being an author all the time. She often chooses some plays for her sisters to perform and writes some short stories. To realize her dream, she goes to New York City to pursue a literary career. There, she meets Friederich Bhaer, sharing a common interest. They get married at last because of the similar goals. Beth, the third-oldest girl in the family, is lovely, sweet and kind . She is fond of music, playing piano as possible as she can. Beth loves the world and people around her. She is always ready to help others, but someday, she develops fever after visiting a poor family, troubled with scarlet. Though Beth recovered at last, she becomes weakened. And that leads to her final death at a young age. Amy is the family’s youngest baby sister. Because of that, she takes it for granted that she can behave in a vain. It results in a consequence that she is selfish and crazy about material things. However, we can not deny that Amy is good at art. She travels to Europe with her aunt and uncle to learn more about painting. And finally she succeeds. She chooses a correct way for herself. 女性主义翻译理论对《小妇人》三个中文译本进行比较与研究:http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_23661.html
