Neologisms and new meanings of some familiar words are constructed in accord with the social background。 To avoid becoming obsolete in modern society, one should keep up with the time and update their vocabulary accordingly and instantly。 The evolution of Language is identical with biological evolution。 As a linguistic system, ecological language gives performance to the coordinated evolution and the harmonious relationships between mankind and the nature can be strengthened。 The ever-changing environments spur the evolution of language as the neologisms were produced simultaneously, which added to the dynamisms of a certain language。 In this process, great importance should be attached to the influence of eco-environment, which has laid the solid foundation for the emergence of quantitative new words。 It is necessary for us to explore the social backgrounds which influence the creation of English neologisms。

2。 Recent Development in Lexicology

Up to the end of the twentieth century, significant changes, mainly brought about by the advancement in newly emerged technology available for common people, great changes have taken place in both the meanings and usages of lexicology。 Both in writing and speech, the influence of these resources on dictionary-making is apparent and clear that expanded usages can now be founded on the dictionary。 This means that, every citation, whether it was taken from real-life communication, or different meanings of a word newly appeared in daily discourse all can be founded in dictionary。 By inspecting how the word is actually used, we can work out a fresh usage different from the original meaning by description and classification。 We can handle this problems by asking questions like what other meaning to collocates with ,what semantic domains it is connected with, and so on。

Earlier dictionary can’t collect both the very first meanings of words when they occurred and the later meaning it produced in accord with the contemporary environment。 However, the concept of a neologism is somewhat misleading in itself since it suggests that there is something special about a new word。 In fact, a new word is no more remarkable than a new phrase or a new clause。 Various resources can be found for every language for the expansion of its lexical stock。

3。 Definition of Neologisms文献综述

What is a Neologism? It may be commonly recognized that a neologism is a newly coined word or term which has emerged in everyday usage, but the term neologism has a broader meaning that includes not only "an entirely new lexical item" but also an existing word whose meaning has been altered in line with the development of society (Gao 16)。 When a specific notion is lacking a corresponding term in a language, or when the existing vocabulary is insufficiently detailed, neologisms are usually introduced then。 A neologism can be:

A completely new word (e。g。, Chairdrobe, which refers to the art of piling clothes on a chair to be used in place of a closet or dresser。 If a chair is not available one can always defer to a floordrobe。 ),

A new combination of existing words (e。g。, Social bankruptcy, which refers to the condition of being so overwhelmed by social media that the only solution is to close all one's accounts。" ),

A new meaning for an existing word (e。g。, vampire generation, a broken night’s sleep is nothing new for any parent。 What is unusual are the legions of older children now suffering from sleep problems well into their late teens — the ‘vampire generation’ as they’ve been dubbed。 )。
