3。 Traditional Interpretation of Jane Eyre

3。1 A brief introduction to Jane Eyre

The heroine, Jane Eyre, was born into a impoverished family。 Shortly after her birth, she loses her parents unfortunately。 Then she is brought up by her aunt, Mrs。 Reed。 Mrs。 Reed is rude to Jane Eyre and hates her。 Jane is always being teased and mocked by her cousins。 She lives a woeful life。 After her uncle passing away, Jane Eyre was sent to a charitable school by her aunt Mrs。 Reed, which is organized for poor girls in Lowood。 At first, she thinks it is a paradise for her。 But the fact proves that she is wrong。 Unluckily, Jane Eyre suffers a large quantity of bad conditions that we can 't believe nowadays。 Tainted food, gauzy clothes, narrow room and inadequate cure make Jane Eyre 's life so terrible。 On the contrary, she is persevering and not overwhelmed by these abominable situations。 The aid of her only friend Helen, together with the unyielding spirit helps her survive the dark situation。 “However, I could not help ask that only this step can prove that does Jane is an independent girl。 I don't think so, after all, female independence needs a great courage, it is a long and complex course。” (Zhou 93-94) Jane Eyre stays there for eight years altogether。 She spent six years on studies and the remaining two years working as a teacher。 In order to seek for a happy life and a new beginning, Jane Eyre departs from Lowood Institution。 Then she obtains a position as a governess and works for the family of Rochester at Thornfield。 Attracted by her optimism and adamancy, Mr。 Rochester falls in love with Jane Eyre。 However, in the course of the plan for marriage, Jane Eyre hears a shocking news that Rochester has a mad wife, so the ordinary governess left Thornfield with disappointment and grief。 For Jane Eyre, on the way of perishing on the moors, John River and his sisters rescue her。 John River also assists Jane Eyre to get a job as a teacher in a village school。 Before long, Jane Eyre happens to get a large amount of heritage and refuses John 's proposal。 At the same time, a gigantic adversity befalls Mr。 Rochester。 During a fire set by his insane wife, Rochester becomes blind and crippled。 Hearing that Mr。 Rochester is disabled and skint, Jane Eyre rushes back to Thornfield to look after him without hesitation。 Eventually, the two lovers are married and lead a happy life evermore。

3。2 Traditional images of Jane Eyre

The poor girl, Jane Eyre, from the low class, can continuously try her best to strive for equality and freedom。 In Gateshead, Jane Eyre 's aunt Mrs。 Reed, who is very ruthless and unsympathetic, is always abusing and maltreating her。 What 's worse, Jane Eyre is teased and bullied by her cousin; even the servant treats her coldly and indifferently。 Jane Eyre detests her living environment extremely。 She has nothing to do but tolerate the unjust treatment。 No matter what condition it is, she insists on her view。 The reality helps Jane Eyre grow into a person with solitude, sensitivity and unsociability。 Under this circumstance, as a female, Jane Eyre is eager to gain her own rights and esteem。 She has a complex and rich inner world, but she has nobody to tell。 No one is able to share her happiness and sorrow, which results in her quiet and indifferent personalities。 Nevertheless, Jane Eyre 's passion for knowledge, freedom doesn 't stop。 After Mr。 Reed 'death, Mrs。 Reed decides to send Jane Eyre to the charity school at Lowood because she wants to get rid of Jane, who she thinks as a burden。 Maltreated by the authorities and suffering a series of troublesome situations, Jane Eyre doesn 't give in to difficulties around her。  “I was conscious that a moment's mutiny had already rendered me liable to strange penalties, and, like any other rebel slave, I felt resolved, in my desperation, to go all lengths。 ”(Charlotte 9-9) Instead, she is full of unlimited courage, as well as formidable confidence, which helps Jane Eyre survives the abominable environment fortunately。 These painful experiences are motivations for Jane Eyre to grow up bravely and become a mature feminist。 During this period, Jane makes a further development of her strong strong-respect and self-independence。 Tired of the life in Lowood, she makes a decision to leave there to seek for an ideal life。 After that, Mr。 Rochester employs Jane Eyre as a tutor in Thornfield。 As a governess, when facing her master, Jane Eyre is neither humble nor arrogant。 She always keeps her own independence, together with dignity。 Gradually, due to Jane Eyre 's wisdom and self-reliance, Mr。 Rochester falls in love with her。 However, there is an unavoidable chasm between their love owing to an idea that keeps in Jane Eyre 's mind that Mr。 Rochester is an upper class gentleman while she is a poor girl from the underclass。 Rochester, the charming person, owns a noble social position, with a large amount of fortune while Jane Eyre is needy and low。 Therefore, when amazed by the terrible information that Mr。 Rochester has a mad wife, Jane Eyre leaves Thornfield。 It is astonishing beyond doubt that such an ordinary woman, who is short of high social status or wealth, should make the disappointing choice。 Yet, it is decided by her rebellious spirit。 “The charm is a very rich vocabulary, a woman was praised the charm, it is apparently much more abundant than simply admire her beauty。”(Liu 55-56) Her common look and poverty cannot prevail over her struggling spirit and esteem。 On the way of a remote and wild moor, Jane Eyre loses her awareness due to long cold and hunger。 Fortunately, John Rivers and his family save Jane Eyre。 With the enthusiastic aid of John, Jane Eyre turns into a teacher in a village school。 When succeeding a large sum of heritage from her uncle, Jane Eyre generously distributes this big fortune to her cousins。 At the same time, Jane refuses John Rivers 's proposal for she knows that she doesn 't love John。 It occurs to Jane that Rochester suffers from a big fire and loses his sight, she hurries quickly to Thornfield, looking after him for nothing but love。 “Jane Eyre is loyal to her love regardless of ranks or wealth。 ”(Wang 189-189) At that time, Jane Eyre finally achieves complete independence of self-esteem and economy。 At last, she gets married with Mr。 Rochester based on true love and equal status。 Jane Eyre touches most readers because Charlotte Bronte depicts a great female image before us。 A great deal of hardships push Jane Eyre forward to pursue inpidual freedom, advocate the equality of social status。 Such these unimaginable conditions present us with vivid characters: independent, hopeful, adamant, but with a bit of self-abasement。 隐藏在反抗精神后的自卑情结重析《简爱》(3):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_201548.html
