From the traditional viewpoints of experts and scholars, most of them are firmly convinced that Jane Eyre is a powerful woman of complete independence, rebellious spirit。 Nevertheless, Jane Eyre is not a perfect person because she has lots of limitations in her character, which hampers her success。 However, few of us realize the influence of inferiority complex。 Inferiority complex is not always harmful for us。 It is our aspiration for superiority complex that makes a difference to our ordinary life。 In the thesis, I want to illuminate the inner inferiority complex of Jane Eyre。 We all have inferiority complex by nature。 Just because of inferiority complex, human beings are not content with their great achievements, which gives them an impetus to seek for better life and make progress。 Therefore, we are supposed to attach much importance to the positivity of inferiority complex, as well as transcend this kind of complex to improve our personality。

2。 Literature Review

Since the great work Jane Eyre was published, it has attracted extensive discussions and attention in that Charlotte Bronte produced a successful feminine image。 In the past, lots of studies have been made to explore the novel。 Some of them focus on the social and cultural backgrounds of Jane Eyre。 Others concentrate on the resemblances between Jane Eyre and Charlotte。 Besides, there are some researches emphasizing Jane Eyre's feminism and dignity。 Meanwhile, some scholars have paid more and more attention to Jane Eyre's inner inferiority complex behind her rebellious spirit。 As we all know, they are all influential to the literary sphere。

Among these well-known researches, most experts and scholars evaluate Jane Eyre from the traditional viewpoints。 Some of them are apt to compare Jane Eyre and the author, Charlotte Bronte。 To some extent, Jane Eyre can be considered as Charlotte 's autobiography。 In Victorian time, women have no social status or equal rights as males, so Charlotte aims to awaken women 's awareness to fight for independence, liberty and true love。 What 's more, due to the two main characters living in the same era, some specialists are accustomed to comparing Jane Eyre and Elizabeth。 “Jane Eyre and Elizabeth have many similarities。 They don 't fall in love with their lovers at first。 They are desperate to seek for freedom and true love。 They attach much importance to their esteem and dare to rebel against the unjust world。 ” (Yi 6-6)However, they also have so many differences between Jane and Elizabeth。 “Elizabeth possesses outstanding appearance and lives a relatively affluent life, so she is a bit arrogant。 Elizabeth looks down on Darcy because he treads on her dignity。 While Jane Eyre is an orphan and she has no beautiful looks, she cannot help but rely on herself。 She firmly believes that true love ought to be built on the equal position, as well as same beliefs。 She dares to despise wealth and status and pursue true love。 ”(Ma 99-101)Furthermore, numerous scholars begin to assess Jane Eyre from a totally different angle。 They start to analyze the hidden inferiority complex of Jane。 “For Jane 's part, dignity occupies a significant position and her dignity comes from inferiority。 It is the inferiority complex that impels Jane Eyre 's constant struggle and challenges against the unfair society。 Apart from this, Jane 's esteem helps her set up confidence, thus gaining a happy life and true love。 ”(Yin 68-69)On the whole, Jane Eyre is a unique character and deserves our further discussions。  隐藏在反抗精神后的自卑情结重析《简爱》(2):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_201548.html
