     Lacking enthusiasm in learning English is not the only obstacle in today’s English study, inpidual difference and insufficient teaching method, unsatisfactory communicate and exchange ability, too much pressure parents put on their children, these factors also contribute to the difficulty value of English study。(郑野 239)

     Being interviewed, Music was regarded as one of their favorite subjects among pupils。 Musical Intelligence theory point out that different people have different combination of intelligence, language intelligence and musical intelligence are among the eight intelligences(Howard Gardner 1983), so we can combine English songs with English learning,  teach students in accordance of their aptitude in order to explore students’ potential。

A large amount of primary schools or teachers neglect the function of English songs, they only play the tape and let students sing after it or even spare no time for singing due to the limited English class time and examination stress, regardless of the feeling of children。 And the traditional way to use English is monotonous and boring。 The fact is that there should be a plenty of ways to use English songs in class。 So this thesis tends to study several different ways to use English, which not only interest the primary school students, but also benefit the English teaching。 

2。 Literature Review

2。1 The New Curriculum Reform

Related national department issued the new curriculum reform standard on the request of quality-oriented education。 This new curriculum aims at improving the comprehensive quality and ability of students and accelerating the reform of teaching in primary school。 The content of the textbook changed along with the new curriculum reform, it combined persity and flexibility, which contains poetry reading, allegory, mini-games and English songs, from which we can conclude that more and more people become conscious of the relationship between music and language learning。 The content of the textbook become closer to the students’ life。 In addition to the textbook, there are series of auxiliary teaching material。 For example, activity book ,student cards, audio tape and videotape。

After the new curriculum reform, there are a lot of primary schools or teachers gradually realize the significance of songs in English teaching, and a large amount of experts have studied the specific function of English songs in helping the students learn English。 Many scholars have fully realized the relationship between English songs and English teaching, music and second language acquisition。 What’s more, they are conscious of the importance and feasibility of English songs in English teaching and the application of English songs to teach vocabulary, audition and spoken language。文献综述

2。2 Related Research

Ma Jing studied the positive role of songs in primary English teaching and pointed out the theoretical basis of applying English songs to primary English teaching, the function of English songs and the principles of selecting English songs。 Lu Xiaoyun analyzed the advantage of English songs from the perspective of pedagogy and philosophy and point out that English songs can be used to lead in or learn new knowledge in The Application of English Songs in Primary School Class。 Dai Shuijiao and Hu Pei thought that the choice of English songs should follow three criterion: first, lyric must accurate and rhythm must graceful; second, the content of the song should relate with language learning or teaching task; third, the length and degree of difficulty should correspond with the students’ age and language level in The Application of English Songs in Primary School Class from the Perspective of Effective Teaching。

Besides, foreign scholar Eken also put forward that using English songs has many advantage: first, it can create a relaxing atmosphere。 Second, it can stimulate learners’ positive emotion and attitude。 Third, it can encourage learners to make the most of their imagination and creativity。 Fourth, it presents and relates a topic, vocabulary and language point。 Fifth, it makes the language learning persified and fascinating。 新课改背景下英文歌曲在小学课堂活动中的应用设计(2):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_83335.html
