Abstract Whether in daily conversation or in speech occurring in novel, periodicals or newspapers, undoubtedly, different types of speech presentation are employed. And moreover, speech presentation is an indispensable part in them. 

The research on different types of speech presentation attracts extensive attention of grammarians, narratologists as well as stylisticians at home and abroad. The theory of speech presentation develops from simple to complex owing to those scholars’ contributions from their own perspectives. This paper takes the speech presentation in Lu Xun’s The True Story of Ah Q and its Eglish version as the object of research to make a case analysis.

This paper falls into five chapters. Part One is an introduction. Part Two is an overview of the past and present studies of speech presentation in western countries, from three different angles : grammatical, narratological and stylistic. Part Three introduces the development of speech presetation in China and presents a general classification of speech presentation in chinese which consists of eight modes after revising the past classifications. It serves as a theoretical basis. Part Four is devoted to the statistical investigation which covers the object, method and analyzing process of the investigation. Part five is the result of statistical analysis. By collecting and analyzing all the reporting modes, the investigation shows that all the modes of speech presentation in chinese can be found in Lu Xun`s The True Story of Ah Q.

摘要无论是日常生活中的人物对话还是小说书刊报纸新闻等中的人物话语，毫无疑问，都有着各种不同的表达方式。而且，无论是日常生活还是小说作品创作，人物话语的表达都是其不可或缺的一部分。

不同话语表达方式的研究受到了来自中外语法学、叙述学及文体学领域学者的广泛关注。他们从各自不同的角度出发，对引语进行了研究，使它经历了一个由简单到复杂的发展过程。本文选用鲁迅的《阿Q正传》及其英译本中的人物话语表达方式作为研究对象，进行个案分析。

全文共分为五章。第一章为引言介绍。第二章从语法、叙事以及文体三个方面综合性回顾了过去几十年西方学者关于引语的研究成果`优尔^文*论[文]网www.youerw.com。第三章介绍了引语在中国的发展，并在总结、修正了前人对人物话语表达方式分类研究之后，提出了符合汉语表达方式的八类引语分类方法作为理论基础。第四章是具体调查分析部分。它主要包括调查的对象、方法、实例分析过程。第五章是对该小说中所有人物话语表达方式的统计分析结果及结论。结果显示汉语中所有引语类型均可以在鲁迅的《阿Q正传》中找到。
