Shui Hu Zhuan is a novel talking about twelfth-century events during the Song Dynasty. One by one, more than one hundred men and women are compelled by the harsh feudal officialdom to take to Liangshan Marsh. They gather together and destroy every attempt of the government troops to crush them. Within this framework, readers will find intrigue, adventure, murder, warfare, romance in a connected series of fascinating inpidual tales, told in the suspenseful manner of the traditional storyteller. The novel, praised as an early "masterpiece" of vernacular fiction, is renowned for the "mastery and control" of its mood and tone. The work is however also known for its use of vivid, humorous and especially racy languages. There are four English versions of Shui Hu Zhuan, this paper will compare three versions which are influential. They are All Men Are Brothers translated by Pearl S. Buck pressed by Moyer Bell Ltd in 2006;Water Margin translated by J. H. Jackson pressed by Tuttle Publishing in 2010; Outlaws of the Marsh translated by Sidney Shapiro pressed by Foreign Language Press in 2001.Outlaws of the Marsh is considered as the most authoritative and accurate version nowadays. 从功能对等角度看水浒传人物绰号翻译中的文化意象传递(2):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_30054.html
