Chinese scholars, like Yang Chunhua and Yan Hong, have confirmed that in ancient times, ordinary people drank tea to keep healthy and regarded drinking tea as a rite to entertain guests。 Followers of Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism have taken the practice of drinking tea to be a method of self-cultivation and a way to gain eternal life。(Yan 5) In addition, Chinese people look on offering tea to the living as a way to express friendship and a commitment to marriage whereas offering tea to the dead as an approach to show one’s sincerity and filial piety。

3。 Difference in Ways of Drinking Tea文献综述

As we know, the ways of drinking tea have been developing along with human’s constant pursuit。 In ancient times, Chinese people were keen on the pursuit of utilitarian value of "tea" -- the pursuit of a kind of "pharmacy" value。 As time goes by, the pursuit was gradually transformed from the "herbal" to "health care products" and finally to "spiritual aesthetic value"。 This is a process from the concrete to the abstract。 Correspondingly, the ways of drinking tea developed from simply making and drinking tea to appreciating tea and expressing particular feelings by the means of drinking tea。 In the process of making tea and drinking tea, participants feel physically comfortable and get spiritual sublimation。

Comparatively speaking, tea has been introduced into western countries since the sixteenth century and gradually rose as a health drink, among which the UK became the world's tea consumption giant。 The British thought of tea as a national drink。 Several centuries later, the practice of western tea represented by black tea and characterized by the afternoon tea in the United Kingdom was finally formed, which embodied the core of western tea culture, totally different from that of China。

3。1 The origin and development of tea

It is said that, in ancient times, Divine Husbandman first discovered that tea can be a beverage。 As is known to us, tea originated in Sichuna China, which is thought of as the cradle of it。 From the Tang Dynasty, Lu Yu was the first one who discovered the pharmacy value of tea rather than just a kind of life needs。 He wrote Tea Classics, in which he introduced the origin of tea, its development and teasim。 It is known as a kind of Encyclopedia of tea and has a significant impact on future generations。 Therefore, he was recognized as the sage of tea。 After a long period, tea was spread to all directions in China。 Then, teasim and tea customs derived。 As a result, drinking tea reached an artistic level, leading to the development of tea sets made of pottery and porcelain。 After that, people in the Song Dynasty not only continued the vigorous development trend of tea which was formed before, but also improved the production, trade and culture of tea into a more prosperous stage of development。 Till the Song and Yuan Dynasties, the spread of tea was basically completed, and Chinese classical tea culture in this period was developed to the extreme。 Till now, not only are the species of Chinese tea innumerable, such as West Lake Longjing Tea, Taihu Biluochun tea, Jasmine Tea, DaGongPao, Tieguanyin and so on, which are famous globally, but also teasim and tea customs are various and colorful。
