A Study on the Loss of Affective Meaning in Translation from Functional Equivalence Perspective- A Case Study of A Dream of Red Mansions,英语论文从功能对等理论看翻译中情感意义的丢失以《红楼梦》抄检大观园为例

Abstract This thesis is based on the studies of A Dream of Red Mansions and many current motivation theories。 A Dream of Red Mansions is considered to be the most classical literary achievements of Chinese novels, and is the peak work in Chinese novel creation。 The translation of A Dream of Red Mansions is endless at home and abroad。 And the most famous versions are written by scholar David Hawkes and our translators Yang Xianyi and his wife。 However, due to the impact of two different cultures, there are always affective neglect and lack of understanding in the translation work, which leads to affective loss in the process of translation。 Eugene Nida, a famous translator and linguist, put forward Functional Equivalence Theory。 This theory emphasizes the translation with the original to achieve functional equivalence, and reemerge the original context in vocabulary, grammar, semantics, discourse and cultural context with the most natural equivalent。 This paper explores the loss of affective meaning in the process of translation in A Dream of Red Mansions from the perspective of functional equivalence theory。92761

Affective meaning is a connotation, potential meaning。 It brings barriers to the translation and communication。 Therefore, translators should not only be proficient in two languages, but also have a more profound understanding on the translation of the language and culture。 In addition, the translator should clearly be aware of the differences between the two languages and cultures and the importance of affective expression in the translation process to prevent the loss of affective meaning in translation。 People may compare different national or territorial works very well for very different reasons -- or they are just for irresistible artistic charm or for the challenge of your ability to think。 And I have both at the same time to compare the loss of affective meaning of A Dream of Red Mansions。 It suggests that Nida who put forward functional equivalence theory attaches great importance to the handling of affective meaning in the translation process, which is not hard to find in his translation of Bible and other translations。 The novel indeed has its charm, which attracts me a lot。 What’s more, we compare the motivation and meaning in humanistic world of this novel。 At present, there are two full translations of A Dream of Red Mansions, namely, The English scholar David Hawkes’s translation The Story of the Stone and our translators Yang Xianyi, Gladys and his wife’s translation A Dream of Red Mansions。 This paper, takes “A Raid on Prospect Garden” of A Dream of Red Mansions as an example, explores the impact of cultural differences on the loss of meaning in translation from the functional equivalence perspective。  从功能对等理论看翻译中情感意义的丢失以《红楼梦》抄检大观园为例:http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_200485.html
