1。2 Research Purpose

Through study of Pound’s translation of “Guan Ju” from the perspective of deconstruction theory, we could find the deconstructionist translation theory and the translation theory of Pound are similar to some degree。 Ezra Pound breaks down the aesthetic rules of the traditional translation theory, and analyzes Chinese classical poetry from a unique angle。 Deconstruction theory makes a breakthrough of the binary oppositions in the traditional translation studies and emphasizes the importance of the indeterminacy of meaning, context, history and subjectivity of translator, which could be used for explaining Pound’s innovation in his translation of “Guan Ju”。

As a result, through the analysis of the English version of “Guan Ju” by Pound and based on the deconstructionist translation theory, the author intends to find out Ezra Pound’s own style of translation methods and theory so as to prove that Pound’s translation is reasonable and understandable。

1。3 Research Significance

As the essence of traditional Chinese culture, classical poetry is unique in culture and artistic style, which brings obstacles and challenges to the translation。 Traditionally, a large number of domestic and overseas scholars study the poetry translation from the equivalence of the source and target language and the manifestation of the source culture, but they ignore the status of translator and target culture; thus, it is urgent and significant to break down the traditional monism and take the target culture into consideration。

Theoretically speaking, different translation materials will be conducted in perse ways。 In poetry translation, linguistic equivalence cannot be the only factor, and non-linguistic elements also should be taken into account such as language and cultural difference, history, purpose of translation, etc。 In this thesis, the author aims to make a supplementary contribution and guidance to the theory and practice of poetry translation。

Practically speaking, the translation of traditional classics is significant to the globalization and the intercultural communication。 The thesis tries to seek a suitable way to enrich the theory of poetry translation and literature translation, thereby to contribute to the Chinese culture exportation。

1。4 Structure of the Thesis

This thesis contains five chapters and mainly focuses on the illustration of deconstruction theory and translation together with the analysis of Pound’s translation of “Guan Ju” from the angle of deconstructionist translation theory。

The first chapter is the introduction。 It presents the background information, purpose, significance and structure of the thesis。

Chapter two is the literature review, which starts from the origin and development of deconstruction theory to the researches both at home and abroad。

The third chapter is the relation between deconstruction and translation which is pided into two sections。 The first section is the illustration of deconstruction and translation theory。 The second section presents the deconstruction and translation practice from the aspects of indeterminacy of meaning, relation between source text and target text, and translator’s task。

Chapter four and five are considered as the most important parts of this thesis。 From the angle of deconstructionist translation theory, Pound’s translation of “Guan Ju” will be analyzed linguistically and non-linguistically。 The linguistic part includes the language style, rhythm and rhetorical devices。 Non-linguistically, his translation will be analyzed from the aspects of culture elements and theme。

The last chapter is the conclusion part。 Based on the discussion of the previous five parts, it summarizes Ezra Pound’s unique translation techniques in his translation of “Guan Ju”, and points out that “Hid, Hid” is not translated in a wrong way。  庞德《关雎》英译的结构主义研究(3):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_195676.html
