Scholars have studied a lot about technical English, and among them, some choose to study marine English。 Marine English, as technical English, is almost composed of long sentences and the passive voice。 Attributive clause, as typical long sentence, is so unique that it deserves being studied alone。 Qiu Daping and Liu Guangya (Qiu Daping and Liu Guangya, 2012) point out that the long sentence can be pided into small components when it is translated into Chinese, which is applied to Chinese readers。 To the passive voice, it is necessary for the translator to add a human subject。

English language focuses on the sentence structure while Chinese language puts its emphasis on the meaning of the sentence。 The famous language researcher, Mr。 Wang Li, said: “In the case of the sentence structure, the western language has the rule of law but the Chinese language has the rule of man。” (Wang Li, 1984)

English sentences are normally long while Chinese sentences are relatively short。 As English sentences are strictly governed with grammar, a lot of topics can be included in a long sentence and still remain clean in their meaning。 On the contrary, Chinese sentences tend to use various separate words or phrases to express different meanings。 Because of this difference, many English sentences are very long and complex, but they turn to be short and simple after being translated into Chinese。
