The Joy Luck Club is pided into four parts including sixteen stories of eight women of two generations from four immigrant families. They are Suyuan Woo and Jing-mei; Lindo Jong and Waverly; Ying-ying, St.Clair and Lena; An-mei Hsu and Rose. Although living in America, the immigrant mothers stick to Chinese traditional culture. Therefore, they organize a weekly meeting of best Chinese friends, which is called the Joy Luck Club, aiming at lifting their spirit and helping them to get through difficulties in their lives. Four mothers have their own view of the world based on their experiences of life in China and want to share their experiences with their girls. However, the girls can not understand the Chinese culture because they were born and get educated in America. So there are many misunderstandings and conflicts between the mothers and the daughters. As time goes by, thanks to great efforts, they begin to understand each other and go into harmony after a series of misunderstandings and conflicts. Therefore, cultural understanding and integration between the mothers and the daughters are achieved.
