During that period, Dickens married Catherine Hogarth, and had ten babies with her. But after twenty years of marriage, he fell in love with Ellen Ternan, an actress at that time. Dickens separated with his wife not long after that. Dickens remained a prolific writer to the end of his life, and his novels-among them Great Expectations, A Tale of Two Cities, A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield and Bleak House-continued to earn critical and popular acclaim. He died of a stroke in 1870, at the age of 58, leaving The Mystery of Edwin Drood unfinished.

1.2 Introduction of A Tale of Two Cities
A Tale of Two Cities is a typical work of Charles Dickens. He wrote this novel in the 1850s. During this period, the society has witnessed many changes and reforms—the industrial revolution, the increasing bureaucratization. It seems that there is little hope for inpidual renewal; the society seems to have lost justice. Dickens, however, through this book, indicates that people can overthrow the oppression and stand up to be the master of their own fates. 查尔斯•狄更斯《双城记》中人道主义思想(3):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_35078.html
