1.1 色调
一副画面中的色彩总倾向，我们称之为色调。在水彩风景画当中，必须具备四个方面的要素，即色调、意境、形象、情调。它是一个互相交汇的有机体。水彩画有着鲜明的性格，时常被人们比喻是绘画中的“芭蕾舞”。水彩画对复杂多变的景象具有捕捉能力,以“水”为介质，用带有透明感的色彩为表达工具所展现出来的水色淋漓尽致，纯净清新的艺术乐趣，这正与中国传统绘画所一直追求的意境有异曲同工之处。
