Abstract With the development of economic globalization, the film becomes an effective and the very wide-ranged cultural transmission way to communication and people love them deeply. Subtitle translation as a new field of translation plays an important role as bridge in the process of China-foreign cultural exchanges. In order to make the audience better appreciate the British and American film and television works, this paper studies the subtitle translation on the basis of some scholars’ study. And then under the guidance of the relevance theory, the thesis studies subtitle translation ways in the film Great Expectations. I hope that more and more people can get a deeper understanding of film and know different emotional color of the characters accurately in different dialogues through the subtitle translation.60053

摘要随着经济全球化的发展，字幕翻译已成为一种新兴的翻译领域。电影作为有效的且影响面很广的的文化传播和交流的途径深受人民的喜爱。为了使观众更好的欣赏英美影视作品，本课题结合一些前人在字幕翻译研究中的经验。以关联理论为理论基础分析电影《远大前程》中所涉及到的字幕翻译方式。希望观众通过字幕翻译对影片有更深的理解并能够准确的理解不同情形下电影角色的感情。

1.1 Research Background

With growing cultural exchanges in China and foreign countries, the western film and television works are introduced into the Chinese market, which has became an essential element of popular culture. Film subtitles translation as a new field created in traditional translation which is important in cultural exchanges. Relevance theory has a power of explaining subtitle translation; the translation theory guided by relevance theory reveals the indispensability of background knowledge during translation activities and reflected the important role of the translator in the translation process. The translation of subtitle should be studied under the optimal relevance so that the audience can get enough cognitive effects with minimum efforts.
