1。1 Research Background

Since Tang Dynasty, Christianity has been spreading in China and integrating with Chinese culture after several twists and turns。 With further cultural communication with western world, it has become an important part of Chinese culture。 There are several Chinese versions of Bible in China。 The most popular two versions are Chinese Union Version and Chinese New Version。 This thesis will focus on the different translating versions of the proper nouns in the New Testament。。 Based on the linguistic adaptation theory proposed by Jef Verschuveren, this thesis will analyze some specific translation examples in Chinese Union Version and Chinese New Version to present different strategies and concepts embodied in the these versions。

1。2 Research Text 

1。2。1 Chinese Union Version

In 19 century, the foreign missionaries in China published Chinese versions of the Bible。 The Chinese Union Version, is a joint version of mandarin Chinese and classical Chinese, based on English Revised Version (ERV) and King James Version (KJV)。 Since firstly published in 1919, it has been the most popular version in China even till today。 This paper will use the revised version in 2008 as research object。 To most Chinese readers, the Chinese version of Bible is equal to Chinese Union Version。 There are four principles of its translation:  《圣经·新约》专有名词汉译策略研究(2):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_147847.html
